Upgrade your Estes Doorknob to the max with our high quality, durable laser-cut plywood components! Let your rocket take on bigger impulse engines, as the plywood components can handle much more strenuous forces than the stock balsa and cardboard components can.
Vander-Burn model rocketry components are made for experienced modelers who are comfortable modifying their own rockets beyond supplied instructions. As with any modifications from the original manufacturers’ design, you may need to add nose weight to re-balance the rocket, and any potential modifications should be completed in a simulation software or properly tested before building and launching.
Included Components and notes:
Four (4) 1/8" thick Baltic Birch Plywood through-the-wall fins to fit Estes Doorknob kit #9720.
Three (3) 1/8" thick Baltic Birch Plywood 38 mm to 3” centering rings (one ring has shock cord mounting holes, and one has fin slots)
One (1) Motor Mount Tube 38 mm x minimum 6.5” (you may need to cut down to fit). Centering rings may need to be sanded to fit tube, as we source these tubes from different suppliers. NOT INCLUDED
Requires either motor friction fit, or a 38mm motor retainer (not included but can be purchased here).

Condition: As shown above, DOES NOT include the MMT. Ply fins may have knot holes, edge gaps, gouges or other imperfections. We strive to have no more than two warped fins per set, but this is not guaranteed and sometimes it’s a possibility all fins could be warped. THESE WILL REQUIRE SOME WORK to get nice for your rocket. If you don’t want to put in the work, don’t buy them. Centering rings may have some blemishes but most are taken from “good” stock.
